WILDOMAR CITY COUNCIL ACTS TO PLACE PUBLIC
SAFETY & VITAL SERVICES MEASURE ON THE BALLOT

Wildomar, CA – The Wildomar City Council Wednesday night placed the Public Safety and Vital Services Measure on the November 2018 ballot to protect local public safety and other essential services including maintaining and improving local police, fire protection, 911 medical response times, local streets, roads and potholes and addressing and reducing homelessness.

“Unfortunately, a significate majority (over 70%) of Wildomar’s responses to 911 calls don’t meet emergency medical time standards. We must save lives by upgrading our sole city fire station and adding an additional station with additional firefighters and paramedics,” said City Manager Gary Nordquist.

If enacted, the local funding measure would get more officers on the streets to address growing levels of robberies and thefts and would improve 911 response times.
“More than 30% of Wildomar streets are rated ‘poor’, ‘very poor’ or ‘failed’ by independent pavement management engineers, with many additional streets still unpaved,” said Assistant City Manager Dan York, “It’s about time we make these essential repairs and safety improvements before they become even more expensive. We need to make sure that our taxpayer dollars stay local, to address local needs.”

Over the last six years, the City of Wildomar lost over $12,500,000 from Sacramento, resulting in cuts on neighborhood police patrols, maintenance and upgrades of local streets and other City infrastructure.  If enacted, all voter-approved funding generated by this measure would be locally-controlled and cannot be taken by the State.

A recently commissioned independent survey conducted by Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates indicated as much as 69% of respondents would support a simple majority requirement local funding measure to address public safety and other vital services.
